Blog Name Generator - 6 Top Tips

Expert Author Lawrence StainbankA blog name generator, as a piece of automated software, does not exist however I will guide you through the process of deciding on a name for your creation. There are some important do's and dont's.
  • Personal rant or a commercial site? If your blog is to be a platform for your own observations on life in general or a particular topic then using your own name is, in my opinion, the best option. A blog created to sell or promote something could still bear your name but a more descriptive title would serve you better.

  • Register you own name as a domain. Most blogs are built around an individual, you will become the core of your site. Readers will react, comment and make contact with you. Try to register your name as a.com,.net, or.org, should none of these be available then get creative. Add something like 'online', 'blog', 'site' etc. Even if you have no intention of giving your blog your own name it prevents someone else taking it and possibly causing confusion. The cost of registering a domain is very modest, usually less than ten dollars.

  • Descriptive yet short. Your blog name should be relevant to it's content and as short as possible. Three words is the ideal but four, provided that it is easy to remember, is acceptable.

  • Research. Using the free Google Keyword Tool you can discover what keyword phrases are used most in the niche in which you intend to operate. However you should not be too concerned about having a name that is search engine friendly for reasons detailed below. Any of the domain name sellers provide a search bar that enables you to check the availability of any blog title you have in mind.

  • Does SEO matter? SEO, or search engine optimization, should not dominate your search for the perfect domain name. A blog will rise through the search engines listings naturally if it contains lots of original and relevant content. You need to blog frequently, I would suggest every day, in order to prevent your site becoming inactive and stale.

  • Why.com,.net or.org? These are the three suffixes most familiar to the general public with.com being, of course, the most well known of all. There is an exception to this and that is when your blog is designed to appeal to readers within your country of residence only. For example if you are only interested in communicating with the population of the United Kingdom then co.uk would be a a good choice.
It is worth repeating that you can have a successful blog that has a less than ideal title but a brilliant name will not compensate for sparse, poor quality content.
What I am suggesting is that you become your own blog name generator. With a little time and patience you will be able to come up with your very own unique domain name.
See you in cyberspace.
