While there are many ways to effectively market a blog, writing articles for venues like About.com, the Yahoo! Contributor Network, or EzineArticles can be particularly helpful. This does not mean that you should neglect the act of consistently creating and publishing blog posts to your own blog. Periodically publishing articles in other places can really help you market your blog. Here are three reasons why:
1. It Helps Diversify Your Audience.
One of the main purposes of implementing blog marketing strategies is to expose your blog to more people. Writing articles for a variety of different online venues gives you the opportunity to do this very thing. For example, if you were to start writing for About.com, you would be reaching a brand new audience: the people who read articles written through that platform. This principle holds true for any platform you publish articles through, and that is why doing so can diversify your blog audience.
2. It Helps Demonstrate Expertise.
Even if you are an excellent writer who is knowledgeable in the field you blog about, the blogosphere is often viewed as a questionable sphere from which to attain information. This is the case because blogs are self-generated and are not subject to a review process. Generally, however, submitting your work to an ezine or online magazine does require a review process. Thus when your article is published, the readers may gain confidence in the idea that you are an expert in the field you cover.
3. Networking Opportunities.
The networking opportunities that come with writing articles are endless. In many cases, the platforms through which you write may have forums where you can connect with other writers and discuss income-generating venues they're using to promote their own work. Or they may simply inform you of venues where they're writing for free because the company affords them exposure to thousands or even millions of readers.
At this point, I have written 279 articles for the Yahoo! Contributor Network and at least 100 for Textbroker. I am also pursuing publication through other venues to reach a broader audience. In addition to meeting a lot of interesting writers who have given me great advice about a lot of things, I have exposed my work to a new readership who will now be aware that I have a blog they can peruse. When you begin submitting your online articles to new venues, it's a good idea to make sure the platform will allow you to include a link to your blog somewhere in the article. This ensures that you can redirect traffic back to your blog through each article you publish. Good luck!
