The essential social media checklist for blogs and twitter

blogging tips 2013

How many times have I blogged and then forgotten to tweet alerting followers to my blog?
How many times have I tweeted in haste and twegreted (ooh, that doesn’t work) at leisure because I didn’t add a link or photograph?
How many times have I blogged and gone with words instead of video or audio?
How many times have I blogged and added no categories or tags?
How many? Many, many times!
I need the following as much as the next guy. A social media checklist for blog posts and tweets
Before I post this blog
  • Have I read it through?
  • Is the spelling and grammar correct?
  • Is my tone engaging, friendly and open?
  • Have I said anything interesting, useful, amusing?
  • Is the headline SEO friendly? Does it say something about content of the blog or is it a cryptic headline pleasing only to me and the very few that may find it?
  • Am I encouraging comments?
  • Am I referencing the blogs or other social media of important individuals connected with the content of this blog post
  • Are links intended for inclusion included?
  • Are pictures intended  for inclusion included?
  • Could I, should I, have I remembered to – embed a video and/or audio link?
  • Have I added the correct/any categories?
  • Have I added tags?
  • Should I tweet about this through ping.fm (or similar service) and alert everyone on twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn etc?
Before I tweet…
  • Have I said anything interesting, useful, amusing?
  • Link included?
  • Picture included?
  • ‘RT @’ included on a retweet?
  • is this thing short enough that it leaves space for a retweeters comment?
  • have I #tagged all the most important words?
  • Should I tweet this through ping.fm (or similar service) and thereby drop it simultaneously into blog, Facebook etc?
  • Am I referencing other twitter accounts e.g. topical tw
  • eeters who have lots of followers
  • Am I asking questions and encouraging interaction
  • What time is it in the UK, US ( depending on my present location), because I don’t want to send this awesome tweet into zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzland and have it buried under a million tweets before its intended audience wakes up

I’m sure to have missed a few checks so why not alert me to them in comments? Go on! Please.
Remember! you can subscribe to our blog, choosing alerts on updates to only those categories that interest you in the subscribe box in the left hand column.
