Knowing When to Contact Your Reseller for Support

It has always been our policy that customers are required to contact a local SolidWorks Value Added Reseller (VAR) for technical support. However, customers sometimes run into problems that don’t necessarily fall under the ‘support” umbrella, and are unsure about whom to contact--their reseller or SolidWorks? So who should customers contact? My goal is to bring some clarity to this topic and go over some examples.
Often, customers who are unsure about who to contact will call the SolidWorks corporate office in Waltham, MA. When this happens, they’re forwarded to the SolidWorks Customer Center. If you’re not familiar with the Customer Center, think of the team as the liaison between customers, resellers, and SolidWorks technical support. The Customer Center primarily deals with two key topics:
Registration
Order Management
Members of the SolidWorks Customer Center team are located all throughout the world, so no matter where you live or what time you may need to contact them, you‘ll always be able get in touch with a real person. Most team members are located in Waltham, Massachusetts. Others are in places such as:
As I mentioned above, the SolidWorks Customer Center does not provide any direct technical support to customers who own a SolidWorks product, including customers who own licenses that are on current subscription. So when would you contact the SolidWorks Customer Center?
The SolidWrks Customer Center is able to assist with the following:
Activation of roducts
Manual activation errors
Activation count exceeded
Basic Installation Support
How to install and upgrade your software
Customer Portal and My. SolidWorks
Unable to successfully create an account
Not able to obtain full access of features
License File Requests
Network licensing, Enterprise PDM, Conisio, Temporary files
Locating your Reseller’s Contact Information
Product Registration
How to get help with products not covered under the subscription support program
SolidWorks Student Edition Support
eDrawings & eDrawings mobile
Activation issues that involve license transfers must be handled by the reseller. If the reseller is unable to resolve the issue, they will contact us directly. If you’re an existing customer and have questions about purchasing additional SolidWorks products, subscription, or renewing subscriptions on current active licenses, you should always contact you’re reseller. Prospective customers interested in learning about SolidWorks will be transferred to an inside sales representative at SolidWorks.
Here’s something that happens to everyone now and then—you misplace your serial number. We place a high value on keeping your information confidential and safe, and while our Customer Center staff can’t give out serial numbers over the phone, they will offer suggestions/instructions on how to find your serial number. If you still can’t find your serial number, the next step is always to contact your reseller, who will guide you through the retrieval process.
SolidWorks offers many free CAD and 2D tools, including eDrawings, Draftsight, SolidWorks Composer Player, and SolidWorks Explorer. Although no phone support is provided, free web and email support is available for each. If you call the SolidWorks Customer Center asking for help with any of these products, the team will do their best to forward you to the best resources. Also, any customer with a current subscription has full access to the Customer Portal, where you can always search the Knowledge Base for answers to any questions you may have.
I hope this has helped shed some light on when you might consider contacting the SolidWorks Customer Center instead of your reseller. If you have any additional questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Tips and Tricks to Keep You Sane

Have you ever tried to tell your son’s school teacher that the reason why you can’t volunteer at the latest fun raiser is because you have to blog?
Apart from the blank stare that you’d most likely get, you would then have to explain yourself, become defensive and go away feeling very guilty, or carry a list of stuff that you ended up saying yes to.
Try telling the teacher you have other commitments that you simply can’t get out of.
One of your not-so-close friends is having a casual get together? Tell her you have some work-related stuff to do.
If the world is going to pretend that I, as a blogger, don’t have kids, I am going to pretend I have imaginary work-related commitments.
Think of the whole process as trying to save yourself the guilt trip and spare others trying to understand what blogging is. Tell people who do understand, by all means; they probably will get it anyway.
Appliances are your best friends
I don’t have a dishwasher in my house. For one, I don’t have the space for it, but the real reason is that I really don’t mind doing the dishes. This is almost a mind-cleansing activity for me.
The fact that I don’t have to use my brain to wash the dishes keeps my hands occupied while I have the time to clear my head and sort through things. I often get my best ideas when I am doing the dishes, and often go away (happily at that) to jot ideas.
But you might hate it! And that’s even more the reason to get a trusted dishwasher, if you haven’t already. While you’re in the process, get yourself a dryer, a weekly cleaning service (if you can afford it), kids’ car pools etc. Do your grocery shopping online. Let kids become a part of the solution—assign them some basic chores.
Outsource as many things that don’t require you personally to get done. This can save you valuable time.
My most favorite—TV, of course! Although use it with caution, and use sparingly. A close second is take-away one week night so I don’t have to worry about cooking for that night.
Get some help from Dad
Nothing beats a hands-on Dad. Get his help with various chores and kids activities.
Get him to cook one night of the week. Ask him to take the kids for their weekend sports. Ask him to do the night-time-bath-and-story-book thing once a week. Is he naturally more chatty, more outgoing than you are? Swap roles of being a “school mum.”
Is he stronger than you? Of course he is—remind him of this when he is grumbling about mopping the floors!
Be flexible
The only way a mum can survive as a blogger is to be as flexible as possible. You will miss out on a lot if you don’t.
There will always be things related to your kids and your household that you would have to do first. You won’t be able to write if your four-year-old is screaming for Spaghetti Bolognese right now. You won’t be able to write if your kid is at home sick—or your partner is home sick behaving like one.
Making an occasional batch of cupcakes with your kids will earn you serious brownie points and will go a long way in creating a harmonious relationship. Hopefully, they will then take a long time to eat those cupcakes as you sit down to write.
Just relax and look at a problematic situation differently. And be flexible.
Live one life
If your blog permits it, bring your children in the picture. Let them sprinkle their magic on your blog.
Then turn around the do the same for them—let your kids see you work. Show them you are as proud of your blog as you are of them. They may not understand it if they are little, but they will get used to see you do other things beside cook and clean.
Just the other day, my four-year-old told his older brother, “stop blogging me!” That lead to great laughter all around. He might not know what blogging is—he probably thinks it a synonym for “blocking”—but at least he is aware of the lingo. Many adults still aren’t.
Put on youroxygen mask first
How many times have you heard that happy parents make for a happy household?
Well, that is in fact the truth. Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others. Do the things that really make you happy. This doesn’t make you selfish. Think of it as an investment. When you invest in yourself, your family reaps the rewards.
If blogging inspires you, by all means do it. Remember that you would have to prioritize some time for yourself, otherwise you will never be able to get it done.
Every time I complete my blogging goals for the day, I feel on top of the world. I am a happier mum, I am a joy to be around, and my kids love me even more.
You don’t have to be a poster parent
Resist to be a contestant for the race of being the Best Mum in the world. There are plenty of things you can do without:
You don’t have to bring adorable, homemade snacks to your kids’ school. Realize that you can buy cookies from the supermarket and nobody will really care.
You don’t have to have your house in tip-top condition. Well in case nobody ever told you, kids are messy: they make a mess everywhere they go! Must you clean after them all day long? Avoid doing activities that lead to even more messes, especially when you are running short on time.
Ironing your family’s PJ’s? Hello!
A blogging parent and pedestal parent are not mutually exclusive. Stop comparing yourself with others. Aim for “good enough.”

Bloging Tips and Triks FAQ

I'm often asked for marketing tips or how-to. When trying to build a business, entrepreneurs search for ways to maximize exposure in the shortest amount of time. I get it. I, however, think traditional forms of advertising are fading and new opportunities are sprouting for people to develop a voice. When I first started my business, I understood the value and importance of my website (which is, hands down, the key ingredient), but I used my blog to supplement my online presence. Unbeknownst to me, these two components became the only things I used to grow my business. And it remains the same to this day.
Blogging enabled me to add more flavor to who I am as a person, not just as a photographer. Some bloggers have an easy time posting everyday, I'm not one of those people. Writing everyday is a discipline. I practice and blog as part of my daily workflow. Sure, some might disagree with my approach, but that's fine. I don't blog for them. I write for my family, friends, and clients...and readers who share their lives with me. This site has become a place where people meet, share, and connect. That's precisely what I want.
Because writing can be difficult here's few tips you might useful to support your online voice...
* Keep It Consistent. There's nothing worse than blogging with two-week lapses in between posts. It's hard to cultivate readership when people waste their time visiting a site without new content. At the very minimum, a blog should be updated once a week.
* Personalize. I know some people are leery putting personal elements on the web, but I think that's what makes blogs great. Flaws, idiosyncracies, flubs. It makes a blog relatable and likable. Now, I'm not saying to air your dirty laundry on the web, but incorporating snippets of your life is powerful.
* Schedule. If you've been with me a while, you know I love to make lists. And organize. And keep schedules. Sure, this might not be your cup of tea, but if you think about what you can blog in advance, it takes the pressure off of sitting in front of your blank computer. On Sunday night, I make a list of what I'll blog for the week. Yes, this may seem crazy to most people, but it's how I roll. Don't hate until you try it. Then you'll thank me.
* Create a Series. I love reading Wedding Wednesday, My Favorite Things, and FAQs from other bloggers. In the same vein, I started Kisses+Disses four years ago. Strangely enough, readers responded to things I liked (kissed) and disliked (dissed) and related to random stories I posted. These stories ranged from becoming an unexpected fish sitter to locking JD out of the house, and they were completely banal reflections of my life, but it gave readers a peek into my life.
* Keep It Simple. Don't overthink things. Simply write they way you would talk to a friend. It takes the pressure off and allows you the freedom to express yourself just the way you are.
When it comes to writing about clients, I'm a huge proponent of crafting a personal post all.about.them. I don't have a questionnaire for clients to fill out in advance, I simply ask how they met. During the engagement session--while shooting or walking to a new location--I ask how they met. It's always a simple Boy Meets Girl story, but I ask questions to fill in the gaps and help me develop a story. The best advice I can offer is to listen. Truly hear what's being said in between the lines, then feel the story. If that's not your style, then try out what I refer to as the 3 and 3 Blogging Rule. And, yes, that's a total Chuck Woolery reference.
* Write about 3 things that were unique to the day, and craft a sentence around each idea. (Ex: It was a cloudy day and just before the wedding ceremony, it began to pour.)
* Write about 3 things unique to your clients, and craft a sentence around each idea. (Ex: John is the only person who can make Kate smile so wide her nose scrunches.)
If you write three unique things about the day and three unique things about the client, you'll have a total of six sentences...and last I heard (freshman year of high school, baby!) six sentences make a paragraph. Bam! Now you've crafted a personalized entry for clients and I believe it reveals a new layer to your business. Your personality.
This blog post is way too long, but I hope at least one person finds it helpful. If not, we'll try again next week! If you have blogging tips you might find useful and like to share, please feel free to do so in the comment box.

Tips And Tricks for the Google TV Pro

If you own a Google TV, we’re a little hurt that you’re reading this instead of enjoying a movie, watching YouTube or enjoying music videos on TV (like you did in the 90s).  Unless—of course—you are reading this on your Google TV. Don’t worry, though, we’ll get over it if you make us a promise: try all the tips & tricks  and then pay it forward. (If you don’t know what we mean by pay it forward, your fabulous Search for Google TV will take you straight to the answer).
Get personalized viewing recommendations.  Is "Glee" not your favorite show?  Want to see shows you'll like, not just what everyone else watches? Use star ratings to configure the TV & Movies app to give you the shows and movies you're interested in.
→ Move the cursor over the show you want to rate and use number keys 1-5 to rate it.
Pro tip: customize Home. It’s up to you what appears on your Home -- any item in All Apps can be added. Put the apps you use every day here for easy access, or add TV channels or websites.
→ Press the Home key, then the Menu key, then select Customize home items. Select an item to move, remove or replace it.
→ Pro tip: add a TV channel or webpage to All Apps by pressing the Star key while viewing and selecting Add to home screen.
→ Pro shortcut: press the Home key then a number key (1-7) to open a Home item instantly.
Where are my bookmarks and favorite channels? They’ve got a new home. Press the Menu key or press and hold the Star key from Google Chrome or live TV to bring up your bookmarks and favorites. To bookmark a webpage or favorite a channel, just press the Star key on your controller.
→ Web bookmarks: in Google Chrome, press the Menu key and select Bookmarks.
→ Favorite TV channels: while watching TV, press the Menu key and select Favorite channels.
→ Pro shortcut: press and hold the Star key from Google Chrome or TV to access your bookmarks and favorites.
Pro tip: search your bookmarks and web history. Tell Google TV Search to access your browser history and bookmarks to give you another easy way to get to your favorite content. Explore other searchable items, including Google Music and Twitter.
→ Press the Home key, select All Apps, then select Settings. Scroll down to Search, then select Searchable items. Check the Browser box to include bookmarks and web history.
What channel number is CNN again? With thousands of channels, it’s a pain to flip through the entire guide to find CNN. Instead, just do a search on Google TV by channel name, be it CNN, FX, or CNBC.
→ Press the Search key and start typing.
→ Press the Star key to add a channel to your favorites or to All Apps.
Multitask!
→ Switching between apps is easy -- press and hold the Home key to bring up a list of open apps, then use the arrow keys to navigate.
→ If you’re using Google Chrome, press the Menu key and select Windows to switch between your open browser windows, or to open a new window.
→ Want to check some sports stats without missing a moment of the game? Press the Picture in Picture key.
Follow your favorite actor. Next time Kevin Bacon makes a cameo on The Closer, just search for his name to see what else he’s in, even what’s on right now. Or, switch over to the IMDB app in Android Market to learn all you’d ever want to know.
→ Press the Search key and type ‘Kevin Bacon’ (it doesn’t have to be him, really) and select See all TV, Movie, and Video results. Select a movie icon to find out where the movie is available on the web, or if it’s coming on TV soon.
Just heard about a cool new show? Start with season 1, episode 1. TV & Movies identifies pretty much every episode of every TV show available and lets you know where you can watch it, whether it’s on live TV or the web.
Add a soundtrack to your slideshow. Start up Pandora, Google Music, or your other favorite music app and then hop over to the Photos app to show your friends your most recent bear wrestling and zephyr piloting adventures.
→ Press the Home key, select All Apps, then select Pandora.
→ Press the Home key, select All Apps, then select Photos.
Choose what happens when you turn on your TV. Go straight to Live TV, or launch TV & Movies or YouTube right at startup.
→ Press the Home key, select Home and All Apps settings, then select Startup application.

Blogger Make Money Tips and Triks

What happens when you “lock” 4 engineers and 4 program managers in a room together for 5 days? Besides a bunch of coffee cups, empty energy drink bottles, and a variety of healthy and non-healthy snack remnants, you get two books written to help users of Melange, the open source software that administers the Google Summer of Code and Google Code-in programs.
In January, Melange developers and members of the Google Open Source Programs Office (OSPO) collaborated on two books that we hope will help users of Melange understand the many functionalities of the software. The main purpose of this document sprint (by day 4 it was more like a marathon), was to help prospective students and open source organizations use the software efficiently and to its fullest capacity. All of us in OSPO also learned a ton about using the software as Program Administrators.
Our terrific facilitator, Adam Hyde of Floss Manuals, started the week off early Monday morning with a lengthy brainstorming session with well over a hundred post-it notes scattered on whiteboards in various categories. We started to see how the sections of the book would evolve and then we organized the post-its into our potential chapters. Then the writing began, and boy, did we write! The book is designed not only to answer questions, but to be a step-by- step guide for each role a person might encounter when using the Melange software. We created dummy accounts and took screenshots so that we could see everything a person in that particular role (mentor, student, organization administrator or program administrator) would see.

We created dummy accounts and took screenshots so that we could see everything a person in that particular role (mentor, student, organization administrator or program administrator) would see.
The first couple of days were spent writing, reading over each other’s work and adding to each other’s sections. When you have 8 people writing different parts of a book you end up with considerably different tones and many style questions.  One large whiteboard was covered with style decisions that we all agreed on, from whether to capitalize “Student” every time it was used to when to use italics versus quotes.
Throughout the week we posed questions to each other and filed bugs on software and UI issues. By Wednesday we had a pretty solid book that then needed to have copy edits and some additional screenshots added.  While part of the group worked on the edits and tweaks some of the Melange engineers worked on fixing many of the bugs and UI issues uncovered.
Having Melange engineers and users (OSPO team) in the same room going through the process from the student, mentor, organization administrator and program administrator perspective was enlightening to say the least.  The engineers were able to explain some features that we didn’t realize worked in a certain way, we all talked through bugs and additional ideas for features, and having the engineers working alongside us to fix and implement these ideas was awesome!
The Open Source programs office has hosted 2 other document sprints with the Floss Manuals team in the last 15 months but this was the first time we were the ones heads down with our noses to the grindstone.  The book sprint process is not for the faint of heart but having a solid book on our software that users can refer to (and the writers too!) is extremely satisfying and a great way to start off the new year.
If you are interested in the finished products you can view them online:  Melange - Google Summer of Code and our Melange - Google Code-in manuals. While you’re there, check out the other manuals that Adam and his team have helped create. Your project could be next!

Top 7 Tips for Beginner Bloggers

1. Start Blog

Before you start a new blog, it's essential that you define your goals for it. Your blog has a greater chance of success if you know from the beginning what you hope to accomplish with it. Are you trying to establish yourself as an expert in your field? Are you trying to promote your business? Are you simply blogging for fun and to share your ideas and opinions? Your short and long term goals for your blog are dependent on the reason why you're starting your blog. Think ahead to what you'd like to gain from your blog in six months, one year and three years. Then design, write and market your blog to meet those goals.

2. Know Your Audience

Your blog's design and content should reflect the expectations of your audience. For example, if your intended audience is teenagers, the design and content would be quite different than a blog targeted to corporate professionals. Your audience will have inherent expectations for your blog. Don't confuse them but rather meet and exceed those expectations to gain reader loyalty.

3. Be Consistent

Your blog is a brand. Just like popular brands such as Coke or Nike, your blog represents a specific message and image to your audience, which is your brand. Your blog's design and content should consistently communicate your blog's overall brand image and message. Being consistent allows you to meet your audience's expectations and create a secure place for them to visit again and again. That consistency will be rewarded with reader loyalty.

4. Be Persistent

A busy blog is a useful blog. Blogs that are not updated frequently are perceived by their audiences as static web pages. The usefulness of blogs comes from their timeliness. While it's important not to publish meaningless posts else you may bore your audience, it's essential that you update your blog frequently. The best way to keep readers coming back is to always have something new (and meaningful) for them to see.

5. Be Inviting

One of the most unique aspects of blogging is its social impact. Therefore, it's essential that your blog welcomes readers and invites them to join a two-way conversation. Ask your readers to leave comments by posing questions than respond to comments from your readers. Doing so will show your readers that you value them, and it will keep the conversation going. Continue the conversation by leaving comments on other blogs inviting new readers to visit your blog for more lively discussions. Your blog's success is partially dependent on your readers' loyalties to it. Make sure they understand how much you appreciate them by involving them and recognizing them through meaningful two-way conversation.

6. Be Visible

Much of your blog's success relies on your efforts outside your blog. Those efforts include finding like-minded bloggers and commenting on their blogs, participating in social bookmarking through sites such as Digg and StumbleUpon, and joining social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Blogging is not a demonstration of, "if you build it, they will come." Instead, developing a successful blog requires hard work by creating compelling content on your blog as well as working outside of your blog to promote it and develop a community around it.

7. Keep Learning

It seems like everyday there are new tools available to bloggers. The Internet changes quickly, and the blogosphere is not an exception to that rule. As you develop your blog, take the time to research new tools and features, and keep an eye on the latest news from the blogosphere. You never know when a new tool will roll out that can make your life easier or enhance your readers' experiences on your blog.

Why SEO For Blogger?

you need blogger the best SEO techniques and strategies to optimize your blog for search engines. Before giving you some fresh SEO tips for your blog, we would like to tell you why it is important for you.
Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. use their spiders to crawl through a website or a blog to show it in search results during a search carried out by a user. After crawling through the site or blog, the search engines index the information from the pages of the blog or website. The indexing is based upon keywords, meta tags, content on the blog and what else your blog is presenting to its visitors.
Whenever you write a word or a phrase in the search of a search engine, the results shown are based on the crawling and indexing. It is therefore necessary that your blog must be optimized in a way that, when it is crawled and indexed by a search engine spider it must be shown on the top in results. This compels the users
to select from the top most results in the first instance.
Now let’s come to the point that what you have to do for your blog’s SEO:
1. After having a blog launched you strive to drive more traffic to it. Driving immense amount of traffic to a blog is only possible if your blog is better optimized for search engines. This is because the main source of traffic generation is a search engine, while other methods to attract traffic are of secondary importance.
2. Ostensibly it seems very hard and pains taking chore to carry out SEO of your blog or website. However in practice it isn’t so. You just have to spend little time, both online and offline, on researching what SEO tips and tricks you need to employ for better SEO of your blog or website. SEO, in my eyes, is a simple and continuously learning process.
3. SEO is an ongoing process; never stopping, never stalling. Constant monitoring and changes are required to be implemented to cope up with ever changing algorithms of search engines and fluctuating nature of SEO.
4. Whatever you are doing in your blog; whether applying blogger tips and tricks, carrying out affiliate marketing, using blogging tips, working on social media marketing or traffic generation techniques; you must keep SEO in your mind. While working with your blog, being mindful of SEO brings more traffic to your blog. The same applies for a website SEO.
5. Successful SEO brings more visitors and consequently your online income increases. Thus you make money online with little efforts because in a huge bulk of visitors many are likely to click on you Google AdSense Ads.
6. One more thing which you might not be aware of is that search engines don’t reveal exactly how do they process the information on a page and index a page? So, it means that most of our efforts to optimize our blog or website for a search engine are a guess work. However constant learning gives you experience and expertise which makes your guess a hit on the bull’s eye. Do research and try finding fresh and latest SEO techniques on net or employ some SEO professionals for your blog’s SEO
7. A user seeking out for something specific online goes to one or more search engines and writes the key words or phrases to search whatever he is looking for. Search engines in return show him/her a list of hundreds of thousands of related pages. The web pages shown on the first page of search results carry top ranking in search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing etc. If your blog or website is better optimized your ranking is also higher and you get to the top or near the top of a search result in your niche. Applying the best SEO techniques to your blog is likely to bring it on the first page of search results and keep it there for good if you constantly monitor your SEO efforts.
8. Now when a visitor clicks on your blog or web address from the results shown in search he is referred to as an organic visitor. This is because he has got to your site by a natural or organic search engine search. He is a genuine and valued visitor in the eyes of search engines. He hasn’t come through any form of advertising you have made. So, you see that SEO gives you genuine and organic visitors. Organic visitors stay on your pages for long time and they mostly become your permanent visitors. You get more chances of clicks on your Google AdSense Ads.
9. Since the search engines use very complicated and secret algorithms for rankings of blogs and websites, there are some very simple and easy things you can do to raise the ranking of your blog to the top or near the top. These simple and easy things include writing excellent quality content, posting articles regularly on your blog, constructing backlinks, using unique and targeted keywords and phrases, using meta tags correctly and pinging your posts regularly. You must also have interest in your blog’s niche and possess good knowledge of it to write useful and informative content. Keywords must be according to your niche’s topic and keyword density must be considered for better optimization.
Hope these guidelines will help provide you a better understanding of SEO for a successful blog. Applying these is definitely going to boost your blog’s ranking.

Blogger Blogspot SEO Tips and Tricks 2013

Major search engines lend a lot of weight to titles so it is important that you craft your post titles carefully. To optimize your post titles make them keyword rich and ensure the title clearly explains what the blog post is about. Try to put your keywords at the beginning of your title for best results and avoid repeating your Know Your Blogger blogs keywordskeywords within the title. Avoid long titles as Google only displays about 65 characters in the search results anyway.
Title tags are important if your Blogger blog is to attract traffic and rank in search engine results. On your blog home page the blog title appears between the title tags while on each individual post page it is the name of the article itself. While the title tags themselves are unseen by the visitor to your blog they are read when search engines crawl your blog.
Search engines use title tags to display your post title as a headline in search engine results. Search engines also display a description of the article either by extracting it from the post content usually by picking up the first 150 characters of your post or by reading the meta description of the post if one exists.
Meta descriptions can be crafted for individual posts in Blogger to good effect. Make descriptions unique for each post and ensure they contain your target keywords and keyword phrases to encourage search engines to extract snippets from them. To find out more about adding a meta description to an individual post please see my article Adding Meta Tags to Blogger Blogspot Blog for Better SEO
Add Meta Tags and Blog Description to Blogger
Adding meta keywords and a blog description to your Blogger Blogspot blog can boost your rankings by helping visitors locate your blog using keyword and keyword phrases. To find out the best method of inserting these into your Blogger blog please refer to my article about Adding Meta Tags to Blogger Blogspot Blog for Better SEO
Use Keywords in Alt Tags and Image Titles
Optimize the images used on your blog by making use of the alt tags and image titles. For some tips on SEO and images please refer to 10 Tips to Build Site Traffic for a Blogspot Blog
Change the Order of Post Title and Blog Title for Better SEO
One key change you can make to Blogger that will markedly improve the SEO of your blog is to adjust the titl tags.
By default Blogger title tags are not optimized for search engines. The name of the blog appears before the name of the article which is not search engine friendly. Since search engines read left to right and give preference to what appears first having your blog name display before your post title is significant. To improve SEO it pays to adjust the order of title tags so that the your post title appears first:
Optimize Your Blogger Permalinks
Hand in hand with a title tag is the permanent permalink that is created when a post is published. If the title of the post is more than about 35 characters long you will strike problems with Blogger because it will shorten the title to a 35-40 character permalink. Some very ugly results happen because of this factor. For instance imagine a permalink such as:

The Best Tips and Tricks for Blogger in world 2013

When we come to enter in the world of blogs. A number of question are to be raised. During the start time of a blogger some question are found in their minds which could be the one of followings. (Which Platform should I use to blog, Is Blogger simple for bloging, Is WordPress not good to blog because of its rest widgets, Is blogger good because of being owned by Google, Would blogger help me to explore something I like to do).

If any of these question are raised in your mind and want to make them clear completely, Then You're on the right path to do so. I my self use blogger to blog on. The time since I'm using it. I've not ever found any problem during the process of my blogging. The most liked and Interesting thing to blogger is that It is owned by Google (A search engine). Which is known by every Internet user around the whole world. If you're a developer then you must know about the various products of Google which are used for the different purposes according to their niche.
As you know about one thing that the way by which we find our needed information is the source of Google search. When we search on Google for something which we want to get, after the search a rest of Websites come in the shape of results. In which you find different kind of websites related to your need. Thus, If a blogger's blog relates to the searched word, will also be brought to the search results with a favor of Google. Why does Google favor to blogger blogs. Because Blogger is owned by Google. Because of this Google favor to its blogs. If you've joined the "Webmaster Tools" (A way to index websites/blogs to Google search) is also owned by Google. Where Google adds your Blog to the "Webmaster Tools" without any asking. That's the favor of Google to your blog. Similarly Google has many Products, which are free to use specially for a blogger. If you need them then don't forget to join all of those from now and get benefited from each of them. Some of blogger features are followed below:
First look is the Last look.
The blogs which are having a good template with a good interface. Which could attract the visitors to visit them back. Don't think that the contents you've are everything for your blog, Because contents have its own place. But design is an other important fact between visiting interest. If your blog's template won the interest of visitors to visit you again then the chances of traffic will be increased. If you've started blogger newly and have no templates to install in it then don't wait, Just visit Google.com and search for templates. You'll probably get a huge number templates from there. Now chose your favourite template according to your blog niche. When you got any favourite template then simply download it and install it in your blog from the template section. After installation make the enough customization to it and you're done at all. It was my own opinion to you I hope this method will help you to get your goal.
Quality of Content is Worthy:
The main reason for having a huge number of visitors is to write worthy and needy content according to your blog niche. If you're blog is related to Internet then you'll need to write articles such as; Make Money Online, How to create accounts online, How to blog on etc. Any of these topics should be explained on you're blog if you provide Internet facilities. Thus, Every blog relates to its concerned topic.
Reply to Comments:
The visitors who come to visit your blog and may some of them want to ask something from you, Which could relate to your blog. Similarly If someone has commented on your blog then don't forget to answer them fast. Because If you answer them It means you're encouraging them to visit your blog again in the future. Once you started answering to the commentators, Thus the chances of more visitors will be increased. You must consider on one thing more that the answer you gave, must be related to the question which would be asked in the comment section.
Respect the visitors and readers:
The thing which brings a person from earth to sky is the respect for others. All of us may listen the words of respect from our elders as they advise us about it most often. With the advice they also mention various topics in that discussion to make us able to understand the importance of respect for someone. So it is not a difficult thing, For what I could explain it. Just follow the rules you've for readers and visitors to respect. Don't ever use informal language to abuse someone Which can decrease the interest of visitors to come visit you again.

What Slows Your Blog Down

That means I am open to discuss whatever I want to this week…hmmm…How ’bout we talk about what sloooows your blog down. Load time that is. I’m no expert on how the internet works or browsers, I’m just going to tell you what I have found out from my own experiences. I will let you know that I do not have the fastest internet in the world. I live in the middle of nowhere so most of you would laugh at my internet speed, but it’s also nice to take us slow-internets into consideration. I know I am not alone in thinking if a blog takes too long to load I click away.
The biggest and most obvious thing that slows load time down is stuff. Lots and lots of stuff on your sidebars. Call me a minimalist but I just keep necessary things on my sidebar. The bare essentials. If you have every countdown widget for winter 2011, videos, and numerous book covers it’s going to slow it way down. So maybe only have one or two countdowns. Maybe post your bookish videos in a post and not on your sidebar. You can always link to them on the sidebar. But if you do feel that everything on your sidebars is necessary maybe you should consider cutting your number of posts per page (in Settings). This will shave some of your load time off, but in my opinion I feel like posts should be more important than gadgets.
Blogger implemented the custom fonts awhile back. They are super cute and it’s a great easy way to customize your blog, but it slows it down. Yes, I do have a custom font for my titles, but I don’t keep many things on my sidebars. So it evens out  If you want to use the Blogger fonts my advice is just don’t over do it. Sidebar titles and post footers, fine. The entire blog text is going to drastically slow it down.
One last thing and this seems to be what bogs down my computer the most…Button slideshows. Crazy, right? But yeah they seem to make my load time much slower. The bad thing is is that I like them. I understand the need for them. It’s awesome to showcase other bloggers you like. I just wish there was a faster alternative.

I've had incredibly slow internet during the day for the past few weeks so this is a great post! I hope some heed your advice because there are a few blogs that I just don't visit anymore because it takes too long to load.
I have a hard time keeping my sidebars as clean as yours. There are just too many events I'm involved in, etc. But my blog seems to be loading good for me so it must be okay.

5 Actions to Take When Your Blog Has Suffered A Security Breach

Blog-SecureA security breach of your blog is no  small thing; if
you’ve been running your blog for a  long time and
it’s loaded with content,  videos  and  other informa-
tion while  also  being part  of  your  overall  online
business presence, a hack  attack can be downright
catastrophic.
Thus, given the potential damage that having your crucial blog pages get hacked wide open can bring, you need to know how to take action as quickly as possible after the fact and save both your data and forensic information about the hack itself while minimizing the downtime your blog suffers before it’s back up and running robustly again
Let’s go over the five crucial steps you should take right after you realize that you’ve been breached.
1. Check With Your Hosting Provider
This is the most basic step you should take after discovering that your site is either not working or is acting very strangely.
For one thing, you may not even be the victim of an actual hack; sometimes accidents do happen and either something your hosting provider did wrong (ie: a server crash) or something you did  wrong (ie: outdated software or badly written code) could be the cause of your problem. This applies especially in situations where a page simply doesn’t load or shows an error message.
Thus, take a deep breath, calm down and contact your hosting provider to see if they can inform you of any mistakes on their part or at least help you go through your own work with your server data to see if you may have done something wrong with your site. Also, if you’ve recently been editing code, go through your latest changes line by line and remove them to see if something there is the cause of odd blog behavior.
Finally, even if you’re sure you’ve been hacked, you should talk to your webhost so that they can explain what they know about the hack to you, or tell you if your blog is alone or one amongst many others that have been attacked.
2. Start Making a Record of Everything
As soon as you start to notice the effects of what you suspect to be a breach, start recording everything that happens after that. Record the names of any suspicious exe files, all odd blog behavior, any lines of strange code you found and pretty much everything you see and do that has to do with your blogs problem.
By doing this, you’ll be creating a chain of digital forensic evidence that will not only help you keep track of how you’re resolving the hack, but will also let you learn from your progress for when it comes to dealing with future incidents.
3. Make Copies of All Suspect Data
In conjunction with making a record of everything you do and see, also make copies of all suspect files, code and EXEs that you encounter. Even though you’re in the process of eliminating them as part of your cleaning efforts, you should first copy each piece of data as part of your attempt to record and understand the hack you’ve suffered. You might even want to go as far as creating a forensic mirror copy of your entire hard drive if you think that the source of your hack was your own computer.
Again, these files represent evidence that will give you a chance to use digital forensics and figure out what had happened to you so that you can better understand it and root out its source.
Save all copies of corrupted files on a remote storage unit such as a flash drive or an external hard drive.
4. Close Down all Server Access Accounts and Change Every Password
This means that, if you’ve given access to your blog’s servers to anyone else via FTP, you should shut down all of these accounts right away and change their passwords just to be sure about security. Additionally, change all of your other server passwords such as those for MySQL accounts, CMS dashboards and even your blog’s hosting control panel password.
This may seem a bit extreme but until you know how someone breached your blog, it’s better to eliminate all possible sources for the hack systematically.
5. Backup All Your Data and Reinstall
We’re sort of covering two steps here, but they go in tandem with each other: First, start backing up all of your blog data from your servers and MySQL databases as fast as you can. The quicker you do this the less likely you are to suffer even worse losses. You should have already been practicing a general policy of regular blog backups anyhow, but, well, some people just don’t. Thus, now that you’ve finally been hacked, get busy with this.
It doesn’t matter if you’re also backing up infected files or malicious code; you can clean both out later in a localhost environment; for now the key is to do a full backup.
Once you’ve backed up your data, erase everything from your active server and reinstall fresh software for all of your blogs components. These will include your CMS software if you’re using a CMS (such as WordPress), your addons, plugins and your third party site addons such as Adobe, Flash or any other blog extras.
Afterwards, make sure that all your passwords have been changed, your site secured with any needed patches and start adding your backed up content back in piece by piece.

Attract Readers to Your Blog

You spent days (or weeks! Months!) setting up your blog, perfecting your design, and writing quality content…but you have no readers! Before you can even begin to worry about developing a following, you first need to let the world know your blog exists. But how do you get your name out there?
I've been asked by a number of people how I network my blog to attract readers. To answer that question, I’ve written a series of Blogging Tips and Tricks posts. In each post in the series I will outline a few methods for attracting new readers to your blog. I am NOT an expert and these tips are based on my own observations and experiences.

One of the fastest ways to get people to look at your blog is to offer them a chance to get something for free. Giveaways are great for exposure.
You have a couple of choices when you do this. You can:
Make following a requirement
Not make following a requirement
Require/give extra entries for spreading the word
Obviously having following as a requirement will make your follower numbers skyrocket. All I have to do is follow you with no intention of ever reading your blog and I could win something? Score! Lots of people will follow you (though probably not me. I feel like I'm lying if I do that).
The downside? Many of these people are not "true" followers in the sense that they'll keep coming back.
Personally, I'm a statistics junky, so I don't like muddying my follower stats with these types of followers (they're also the most likely to un-follow you, which always makes me sad).
Also, not everyone who reads your blog is going to be a blogger, so making following a requirement may alienate your most devoted readers! I started reading blogs long before I had an account with Blogger and I'm not the type of person to subscribe through email, but that didn't make me any less of a follower.
Because of all of this, I will never ask you to follow my blog in order to enter a giveaway. BUT, my follower numbers are also a lot lower as a result.
So there are pros and cons. This is a personal choice and only you can determine what is right for you and your blog.
Giving extra entries is a great way to help spread the word about your blog. Basically, you're getting the people who enter your giveaway to do a little leg work for you and, as a result, your blog will be exposed to lots of untapped readers.
The only reason I don't normally do this is because I'm too lazy to add up extra entries (it was CRAZY the one time I did this, though I did have "unconventional" extra entries). But, there again, my blog's exposure is probably taking a hit.
I hear Rafflecopter is great if you want to use extra entries (I will probably never use Rafflecopter because I don't like it. But that's a whole 'nother conversation).
Making extra entries a requirement may turn some people off, too (not everyone uses Twitter and Facebook! Like, um, me...).

Hosting an event is a great way to expose yourself to new readers. Just look at Busting the Newbie Blues for an example! I also recently co-hosted the Historical Fantasy Jubilee.
I saw an increase in followers as a result of both events, but even more importantly those events have been great networking opportunities. Almost every blog that signed up for Busting the Newbie Blues last year are blogs I still read now, and I've found many more to add to my feed reader this year.
What did I do to spread the word about Busting the Newbie Blues?
I emailed bloggers who I thought might be interested and asked if they would join
I made a button for people to add to their blogs
My event includes interaction where bloggers make a post on their own blogs
What did we do to spread the word about the Historical Fantasy Jubilee?
Ruby and I sent out email invitations to select bloggers and encouraged them to invite their friends
Ruby and I made event and game buttons for people to add to their blogs
Ruby tweeted links to our event
Some of our giveaways offered extra entries for tweeting
We added our giveaways to linkups like Candace's Saturday Situation (and others)
The authors who participated in the event spread the word through their own social networks
What you should keep in mind:
Hosting an event takes A LOT of time and effort, so plan your time accordingly
The more involved you are, the more involved others will be
Method 3: Host a Challenge
Hosting a challenge is not something I have done yet, but I imagine it would be a good way to attract readers to your blog. Not only that, but it is a great way to get readers to keep coming back to your blog.

Optimize Blog For Google and Other Search Engines

Being a blogger you must be aware with the fact that Google changes its policies after a short period of time. It is done to punish the spammers who apply black hat SEO techniques on their blog to rank high in search results. After each update, you can notice a change in website's page ranking in search results. Blogs that have applied white hat SEO techniques rank higher in search engines. Even these policies changes very frequently but if you go through the policies then you will come to know that some of the policies are always same. They have never changed. So, in today post we'll discuss about Universal SEO Tips for Google that every blogger must know. This will be a beginner's guide so that you can learn every aspect of white hat SEO from starting.

Optimizing Blog for Search Engines
Below I am going to mention those tips which are always same and work to improve blog rankings. There are lot of things that you need to learn but first start with these basic tips because even they are basic but most effective too. You can't ignore them if you really want better results of your hard work.

Publish High Quality Content
When you write post for your blog, make sure that you publish high quality content. It should be keyword rich with at most 3% of keyword density. Also assure that you only publish original content to your blog. It should not be copied from anywhere otherwise Google will punish you for that and you lose your rankings in search results.
Target Specific Keyword
In tip #1, I told to write keyword rich article. Except this you must focus on your keywords. Always focus a single keyword in a post. If you target more than one keyword in single post then it will create a fuss in your article that confuses the search engines. You will be penalized your over SEO or Black Hat SEO.
Advanced Tip: How to Improve Keywords Ranking in Google?
Catchy Post Titles
Yourpost titles should be catchy and must contain your main keyword. Don't forget to add unique description to all of your posts. Post titles and description is the only thing appears in search results that force the visitors to click on your link to read the entire story.
Except this you must work on your blog to optimize post titles. You must check below tutorial to optimize your post titles.
Optimize Images
If possible then try to insert an image related to topic of the post. It will not only make your content more presentable and stylish but also help to improve its rankings in search results. But you must care about image optimization techniques for better SEO of your posts. I have published a detailed article on this topic. You must check it out for complete information.
Link to Old Posts
When you write new post for your blog, make sure to add some links of your old posts in it. The links you add must be related to the current topic that can provide depth information about that topic. Those links will attract the readers to check those posts too. By doing so you will be able to increase your blog page views and you will get more traffic to your blog. If you are getting too much bounce rate on your blog then you must use internal linking because it is the best way to reduce blog bounce rate.

But can search engines find the images on your site? Not if they aren't "tagged". Go through your site and make sure every image is tagged with a proper "title" and "alt-tag" aka "alternate text". This helps search engines identify and properly index the image, bringing targeted traffic to your site.
5.Driving visitors to a website is one of my core skills for the last 16 years. One of my favorite methods is to create a related directory on your website. For example, if you are selling camping tents, create directories of well known camping clubs and national parks. Then, whenever someone is searching for the "Boston Camping Club" or "Yosemite", your directory page will appear just above or just below the clubs or park, giving you an unpaid ad in Google.
6.Grow your connections on LinkedIn by joining and interacting in groups. Each week, post your newsletter article in the discussion area of the groups and be sure to comment on the comments of others.
7.Offer something exclusive that clients/customers, or potential ones, can't get from you anyplace else. Whether it's a product, service, white paper, report, analysis or anything else, make it available only through your website. Then, use other social and traditional marketing channels such as email, social media, networking, snail mail, and advertising (whatever works for you), to tell them it's available only on your website.
8.Use SEO application software.
9.Optimize your videos on YouTube by putting your keywords in the title, description and tags. Put your website URL at the beginning of the video description. Place your keywords as captions in your video. Put your URL on a text page at the end of your video.
10.search drove traffic, slow connections limited the use of images, etc. Today, with Stumble, Pinterest, and other social networks giving you a half second to grab a viewer's attention, great visual imagery is essential for gathering "pins" and "likes" which will drive traffic directly, as well as build a foundation for further SEO improvement. Great text is still important to keep visitors and search engines, but great images attract people.

Tips and Tricks of Beauty Blogging and Lessons Learned

Recently I have been getting quite a few emails from people who either want to start a beauty blog or recently started one and are asking me for some tips.
As weird as it is for me to believe, I am considered a veteran now since I have been blogging three years next month! Time flies.
I actually wrote a two-part series on this very topic back in 2009 here and here, but I’ve learned quite a bit since then so I figured it was time for an update. Also that post is extremely detailed and assumes you don’t necessarily even have a blog name yet.
Why start a beauty blog?
This is probably the very first question you should ask yourself. Why are you starting this type of blog? Is it because you love makeup? Is it because you are bored and want a hobby? Do you love writing? Are you looking for free products? Do you want recognition from companies and cool invites to events?
The very best reason to start a beauty blog in my opinion is because you LOVE beauty/makeup and want to create something. I started this site because I love makeup, love writing and wanted a hobby I would stick with.
The worst reason to start one is for free products or some kind of recognition. More on that later…
How do I get people to come to my site?
Post! A lot! No really, posting frequently and consistently is definitely one of the keys to getting people to come back over and over.
Commenting on other people’s blogs is another good way to get noticed, but it’s a tricky one. You don’t want to just randomly go to blogs and leave generic comments just to get noticed. Only visit blogs you would normally be reading even if you weren’t blogging yourself, and leave comments that actually mean something. In other words not just “Nice” or “Cool post”. Try to add value to the post and you might even get a conversation going. Meaningless link dropping will definitely get you noticed, but not for the right reasons, and I frequently will trash those types of comments if they are left on my blog.
Twitter is KEY in growing your blog. KEY!! Basically if you are a blogger you have to have a Twitter account these days. Twitter has been at the #5 or 6 spot in my Google Analytics for how people find me for well over a year now. Twitter is also a great and fun way to “meet” other beauty bloggers and get in contact with companies and PR people.
Writing a guest posts for other blogs can be a great way to get some blogging experience as well as get you noticed. I did a few posts for a large beauty blog a few years ago and that definitely helped me gain readers. But again, don’t just offer to write for just anyone, chose a blog you love and pitch a topic to them that fits in with what they normally blog about.
How can I get companies and PR people to send me review samples?
I mentioned above that you don’t ever want to start your blog with the sole purpose of getting free samples. It’s very obvious when people are only blogging for free products and believe me, companies and PR folks can spot this behavior a mile away. It just doesn’t work that way.
You have to work hard for a long time to establish yourself get to know people via Twitter/Facebook/Commenting on other people’s sites before you can begin to think of PR samples. I think a good rule of thumb is you should be blogging at least 9-12 months before approaching anyone for samples, and be prepared to show your site analytics.
There is no set in stone rule about what companies are looking for when they send samples, so that can be tricky. Some look for your actual website statistics like Google Analytics to see how many people visit your site. Some want to see how many people follow you on Twitter and/or Facebook. Some are interested in seeing how many people comment on your site. Some won’t ever tell you what they are looking for or respond back to you. Annoying perhaps, but that’s the reality.
Something else to keep in mind is companies won’t always contact you, sometimes you need to take it into your own hands and contact them. I would say at least 50% of the companies I work with I contacted first. But I waited until I was more established and had a few posts I could show them before I would reach out.
A really good way to ensure you won’t get samples sent to you is to complain about not getting samples in a public forum like Twitter. You have to remember to stay professional if you want to work with professional companies. Also remember when you complain about a particular company publicly, all the other companies who follow you will see that and trust me, they will take note and get turned off. There are plenty of bloggers who act in a professional manner that they would rather give samples to!
I will admit though that it’s harder than ever to get the attention of companies, even for more established blogs. There are SO many beauty and nail bloggers out there now. You have to stand out, do something that makes you different from every other blog yet still always be yourself.
A harsh fact is a lot of this world revolves around who you know. It isn’t always about who works the hardest, or writes the best posts, takes the best photos or whatever. It can be really disheartening and frustrating, but you have to just move on and keep your chin up!
One way to start meeting these people though is to attend blogging conventions and events such as Blogher, Cosmoprof, IMATS and the like. That way at least you are getting out there and possibly meeting the PR people and those who work at various companies you are interested in working with.
When you work your butt off and are serious about what you do it will show and things will eventually fall into place.
What about all the technical stuff, what do I need to know?
Part of blogging is always growing and learning new things. When I look back on posts from my first year of blogging I cannot believe how much I have improved! Especially the photos, I did NOT know what I was doing back then!
I took a bunch of classes in things I was interested in like Photoshop and Illustrator but also read a ton of books about photography and blogging and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) when I started.
You don’t have to have a super expensive DSLR camera to take great photos, but it definitely won’t hurt. The most important things are learning about lighting and how to take macro shots if you’re doing up close product photos. I have a lot to learn still, but have improved even from 6 months ago.
I use a Canon Rebel T1i for my photos usually with the Canon 58mm Close-up Lens. For product shots and swatches (non-nail) I use a tabletop photo studio and some fairly inexpensive umbrella lights. For nail shots I do them indoors with a flash. I used to take them outside in the sun but found that was more work and way too unreliable.
How time intensive is beauty blogging?
It all depends on why you are doing it, how often you post and what types of posts you are doing.
For me this is pretty much my life outside of my 4 day work-week. I spend a good 25-30 hours per week on my site and that’s on top of working 32 hours a week in a normal job. I could easily do this full time if I wasn’t working also. This is what I want to do for a living and I am determined to somehow make it work! Keep in mind though that I post 2-3 posts per day during the week and then usually 2 on the weekend, so your schedule might not be that crazy.
But if that’s not your thing, then that’s totally cool also. It can be as much or as little as you want, but the more you post, usually the more followers you will have.
How do you handle other people’s successes when you seem to be getting nowhere?
This is definitely an issue we can ALL relate to, I don’t care how large or small your blog is. At some point in time the green eyed monster will raise its ugly head at someone else’s success.
Every now and then you will hear about other people getting press or a really cool opportunity and think, “Man, why didn’t I get asked to do that?” It can sting. Been there done that a million times.
I try my best to look at it objectively though. They weren’t rejecting ME they were accepting THEM. It’s not personal. Frequently those whose names you hear about the most who have the most readers will get the better opportunities. It’s the way it works pretty much everywhere in the world, not just in beauty blogging. And that comes back to the whole “It’s who you know” thing, which there isn’t much we can do about.
What I do when this happens to me is wallow in it for a short period of time, maybe commiserate with a friend then move on. The best thing you can do is keep your nose to the grindstone and keep on posting.
There is a reason my motto, which can be seen all over my house and various items I own, is Keep Calm and Carry On.
Why do I keep blogging?
When I started blogging back on September 7th, 2008, it was kind of a test for me. Part of the reason I started was because I was bored to DEATH in my daily administrative job (still am) which allows for zero creativity. Also, I had been searching for years for a hobby that I actually would fall in love with and stick with. I tried everything from jewelry making to scrapbooking to creating models, to World of Warcraft, etc. Some of these didn’t even last past me buying the stuff to start the project!
So when I started this blog I wondered seriously how long it would last. But it kept lasting and lasting and I didn’t seem to tire of it. After a good 6 months of doing it I kind of knew that this wasn’t just a hobby anyore, it was something I really enjoyed and now needed to do to add some fun and creativity into my life.
There have been moments where I have been frustrated with something or totally overwhelmed because I try to keep up with people who actually blog for a living and I think, “Ok I’m done.” But that feeling goes away usually after a couple minutes to a day, then I get back on the horse and push on.
Now I blog because A. I love it B. I want to do this for a living and C. I love interacting with people all over the world!
Thanks to all of you who have visited my site and gotten some useful information out of it, or chuckled at something I wrote. It wouldn’t be the same if I had no readers. You are what keeps it interesting and fun!
